Ποιειν Και Πραττειν - create and do

Further Proposal by Frank Moulaert

First

Theoretical statement on the need to valorise local specificity's in regional-local development and planning strategies; such specificity's can be of different nature: economic, demographic, geographical, socio-political and socio-cultural.

What then is typically socio-cultural in regional-local developments?

What is the role of multi-dimensional analysis in preparing planning strategies?

Second

There could be a confrontation between planning experiences which took cultural elements into account and those which did not take them into account.

If agreement can be reached as to looking for these confrontations, then we can look for examples.

Third

One paper at least should reflect upon planning methods accounting for cultural elements.

with a response by Juergen Eckhardt, Architect (4.02.1994)

"I can gladly hold a lecture; topic could very well be: monumental protection, City- and Village development and preservation of the cultural development of a region. Basic examples for this could be taken from Brandenburg and Berlin.

I could examine 'preservation' under various perspectives. In such an approach socio-cultural as much as cultural-historical analysis would be of great importance. The point of reference, namely 'regional identity' would not be subordinated to an art historical approach as understood in scientific terms.

The proposal of Frank Moulaert encompasses a wide scope. A few things I do not understand, for example, the question as to the role of multi-dimensional analysis in the preparation of planning strategies. What is typical in socio-cultural terms when it comes to regional-local development, that I am interested in very much and should be dealt with. Certainly Frank would be in a position to do that.

As to the second question, that appears to me to be very important and so extensive, that I would not look in this case only for examples. I would structure this approach to certain theoretical principles:

I am waiting for a reply to the third suggestion."
