Introduction

Reflections about recent ECoC experiences and the EU Commission's public consultation about the future of ECoC beyond 2020: Hatto Fischer

Questions derived from a notion about a 'Culture of Sustainability': Oleg Koefoed

“The idea that I have been nudging, of setting up a transversal, transdisciplinary and transcultural action-research/action-philosophical project around how the ECoC cities handle the whole issue of sustainability, how they understand the issue and its challenges, how they manage it into their bids (before becoming official ECoC cities), into their plans, and into their development and unfolding of networks, empowerment, inclusion, economy, political choices, connections, environmental actions, incorporations of complexity, etc.  (or, of course, the negative of any of those examples); and how the issue continues (or ceases) to play a role for the city after the ECoC year. Many other questions or angles may turn up, some more theoretical, some closer to strategy, some drawing very closely on experiences, and others more on visions. “ - Oleg Koefoed  April 5, 2011

9.00 Thematic perspectives and the European debate about ECoC - discussion moderated by Hatto Fischer and Oleg Koefoed

1. Do ECoC cities fulfill the criteria set out for selection, monitoring and evaluation purposes?

i. City and Citizens: participation by entering the creative process together

ii. European dimension and the EU Vision 2020 and the future of ECoC institution after 2020

iii. Dialogue between cultures and culture as third dimension of international relations

2. ECoC - the lack of sustainability when it comes to criticism of the artistic program and participation by the free art scene, artists and people wishing to enter the creative process

3. The link between creativity, innovation and planning

in reference to the discussion about cultural planning held at the ECCM Symposium 'Productivity of Culture' in Athens 2007: http://productivityofculture.org/symposium/cultural-planning-2/ and paper given by Anna Arvanitaki at the conference organised by the University Network of European Capitals of Culture in Pecs, Oct. 2010.

4. Sustainability and Communication in a modern age - the examples of Wroclaw 2016 and Sonderborg 2017 - but also a matter of how youth and different generations participate

11.30 Coffee break

12.00 Open Discussion
