Berlin Black Star Collection

Doina Popescu, Ryerson University - Cultural Centre

Doina Popescu from Ryerson University explained for the guests some aspects of the photo exhibition. “Images of the Berlin Wall” stems from the Black Star Collection which was started by the Black Star Agency with Ernest Mayer, Kurt Safranski and Kurt Kornfeld. The collection covers major political events and has been artistically expanded by Blake Fitzpatrick and Vid Ingelevics under the much assuming title “Freedom Rocks”.

The collection with claim to cultural gravity is now located at Ryerson University, Toronto (see www.ryerson.ca/collection) .

Note:

"The small exhibition of images of Berlin Wall fragments that you'll see at the German consulate was created by Blake Fitzpatrick and Vid Ingelvics. Blake is one of the co-curator's of War at a Distance (see http://poieinkaiprattein.org/conferences-symposiums-workshops/europe-performing---toronto-nov-2009/gallery-discussion-about-soldiers-in-afghanistan/)

The few  images at the consulate are part of a larger project that he and Vid are undertaking, including videotaping interviews with people who have in one way or another acquired fragments of the wall and who are keeping these a 'mementoes'."
