Vincent van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise

Visit 10.December 2008

Landscape of Auvers with special light effects which attracted Van Gogh's eyes

What recovery chances do you have when mortal paint meets blue skies and chairs remain empty despite your hope for an atelier of the South?

You had to endure pain and loneliness, even though you were not afraid to look into that abyss of yours to discover there exists only nothingness.

                                          Van Gogh as lonely tree

How many letters did you write to your brother who was so patient and kind to you throughout your entire life?

Grave of Vincent Van Gogh and of his brother Theo

Drink deep, says the ivy covering your grave now with your brother beside you as if you two were laid together in your parents’ bed when still small, togetherness meant then a bright future would lie ahead as your eyes caught first glimpses of broad daylight.

Delightful memories circle over you like the birds in that incredible landscape.

Hope mixes with the earth, the earth your potato pickers struggled with to free those apples of the earth.

Winds howl and free thoughts roam at night while you could not sleep. A feverish look you gave to your hair, landscape and to everything around you but your eyes stayed calm.

    The church in Auvers

Often we miss your wisdom when it comes to art. Often we do not recall your voyage from Holland to France. Often we look back and remember only too late what you did back then for humanity.

You came to Auvers also because of Dr. Gachet.

Painting in your sense is an expression of agony. Pain remains the constraint for your paintbrush. Lifting the eyes to see the horizon brings hope.

Fateful Auberge where Van Gogh confronted Gaughin with a cut off ear lip

Again the birds fly along the horizon. Your tired eyes draw the line. Always you recognize subjects worthy to be painted and then you knew who could do it better than yourself.

Recognition of greatness is realized according to you by recognizing the greatness in others.

You have done what you could and now you lie at rest, there, not forgotten, but besides you your brother. It is good that he could join you and together the duration of your relationship lasts beyond the borders of death.

It is time to go to your paintings to see how they continue to live on even when your own breath no longer shows the colors a way through the waves encircling the source of light.

Tavern where the last fatal meeting between Van Gogh and Gaughin took place.

It is the place where Van Gogh in a fit of jealousy presented to Gaughin

his cut off ear lip out of protest against Gaughin making off with his only woman.
