Chios Izmir Declaration of Peace 2007

Peace depends upon the ability of building bridges of understanding based on long lasting friendships

Key feature is holding hands

Basic principles:
There is needed a clarification of concept of peace based on dialogue between cultures.
The biggest task is to end the ‘permanent war’, so as not to institutionalize war as means of keeping security but with no peace and many more people displaced, with no where to go nor any cultural roots as to know who they are.

Entering the peace process as exemplified by Kids Guernica means to free the imagination of children so that they can envision a future without war.

It is but a first step, and needs to be based on trust and friendship obtained through collaborative work on peace murals of the same size as Picasso’s
Guernica painting (7,8 x 3,5 m).

This means as well doing away with all sorts of enemy pictures produced to justify the going to war; instead redemption must be the work of the imagination so that children become the witnesses of peace.

The human language and human self-consciousness has to be fostered and this can be done as is the mission of POIEIN KAI PRATTEIN and Kids’ Guernica - Guernica Youth.

It has to be done by bringing together culture and economy in such a way that categories of productivity and creativity come together so that people
use such a language by which they address the human self consciousness in each other.

Part of growing up must ensure that children can play in the streets as best school, and thus an informal way of learning.

Not all languages are the same. For instance, the writer George Crane is of the opinion that the American English is much more lucid and open to changes compared to the British language because it has more of a street language character, that is bottom up and flexible, therefore more open to people of all walks of life.

George Crane: “Peace comes with the compassion to stop the cycle of violence and that is based on insights that we can no longer live with revenge and rage as if they only way to restore social justice.”

Any declaration of peace helps to realize its vision if it adds to already existing insights into what constitutes peace as a way to go beyond the cycle of violence and the spiral of revenge.

The existences of rage and ever more violence in the world beg the question, but how to be convincing to those who want to resort to violence rather than wait for an answer as to what is convincing to others?
