Use of multi-media technology in Museums and Cultural places:
the changing role of Museums and links to regional development

 

Thematic perspectives:

1. Multi media and new technology in Museums: recent experiences in the innovation of museums and with focus on the themes:
2. Information management and digital archives, collections and data banks
3. Multi-media presentations, interactive applications and virtual reality experiences
4. Multi-media products in the gift shops of Museums
5. The extension of Museums on the web (e.g. ‘virtual museum’)
6. The changing role of Museums: organization (services, management, networking, financing) and links to regional development.

The meeting is a part of the HERMES project – Work Package 3 – and aims to bring those partners of the HERMES together who are involved in museum work.

The workshop in Volos attempts to address key questions for future museums: extent to which use of multi media alters the position of the museum within the Information Society and digital culture.

The discussion relates to Volos wishing to establish three new museums:

• Industrial Heritage in the former brick factory Tsalapatas
• Museum of the City
• Argonaut Museum
